Porcelain Crowns in Houston

Porcelain crowns can be used in a variety of ways. They are often used for cosmetic purposes, to help improve the appearance of a tooth. At New Teeth Dental Solutions, we are proud to provide quality porcelain crowns in Houston to help give patients a more attractive or more functional smile.

What are Porcelain Crowns?

A crown is a dental prosthetic that covers a tooth. Because it covers the tooth all the way around, it is also referred to as a cap. It is cemented onto a tooth, making it a permanent restoration, and can then only be altered or removed by your dentist.

How are Porcelain Crowns Used?

At New Teeth Dental Solutions, we place crowns for several reasons. Most often, a crown will be necessary to cover a damaged tooth. It may also be placed to hold together a broken tooth or prevent it from breaking. In addition to treating dental health issues, porcelain crowns can also be used to improve the appearance of a tooth that is severely discolored. The advantage of using porcelain crowns is that it produces a natural-looking restoration as the porcelain material can be colored to match the surrounding teeth.

What is the Procedure to Place a Crown?

Before a crown can be placed, the affected tooth must first be prepared. Your dentist at New Teeth Dental Solutions will apply a local anesthetic to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible for the procedure, then remove any areas of decay on the tooth. It will then be shaved down to make enough room for the crown to fit. Your dentist will take an impression of the prepared tooth. Porcelain crowns are not created on the same day as this appointment. The impression will be sent to another location where the crown will be made. You will need to return to our office in Houston for another appointment to have the crown fixed once it has been completed.

After we have received the finished crown from the dental laboratory, it will be bonded into place to complete the procedure. Your dentist can make adjustments to the prosthetic if needed to ensure that it fits with your bite.
